    Arrive in Lima

    In late after the long haul, met at Jorge Chávez and driven to Miraflores on the cliffs above the Pacific.

    Lima, colonial and modern

    The Plaza Mayor and San Francisco's catacombs in the morning, the Larco museum's ceramics after lunch, and ceviche where the locals eat it.

    To the Sacred Valley

    The morning flight to Cusco, then straight down to the valley at 2,800 m — sleeping lower makes the altitude much easier — to a hacienda near Urubamba.

    Pisac and Chinchero

    The market and the hilltop ruins at Pisac, then a Chinchero weaving cooperative where the dyes are still made from cochineal and plants.

    Moray and the salt pans

    The concentric agricultural terraces at Moray, each ring a different microclimate, then the Maras salt pans and Ollantaytambo in the afternoon.

    Train to Aguas Calientes

    The Vistadome from Ollantaytambo along the Urubamba, dropping 800 m into cloud forest, to a hotel by the river below the ridge.

    The first bus at 5.30 for the citadel before the day trains arrive, a guided circuit of two hours, then the terraces at your own pace.

    A second short morning at the site if you want it, then the train and the road up to Cusco, and an easy afternoon at 3,400 m.
